Tottenham midfielder Paulinho has said that it has been impossible for him to stop thinking about the coming World Cup. Brazil will be the host for this tournament and expectations are already high amongst the fans that they will lift the trophy for the first time since 2002.
Paulinho is one of the established first-team members of the Brazil squad. He recently came to British football with Tottenham for £ 18 million. Even though he has been in a new country, the 25-year-old has been able to settle immaculately well at Tottenham.
He is expected to be one of the first names in the squad when Luiz Felipe Scolari announces it in a few months time. He has so far been included in every friendly and competitive encounter for the national team.
The 25-year-old has stated that he has been concentrating on Tottenham since joining them in the summer, but it has been difficult to not think about the coming World Cup. He has said that the Premier league is vastly different from the Brazilian league since it has more quality players.
The Premier league is known for its fast action football, which has also made him a better player according to Paulinho. He has so far made 17 league appearances and scored two goals this season.
“It is impossible not to think about [The World Cup]. It is the dream of every player. Imagine winning the World Cup in your own country. It would be the happiest day of my career. I’m trying to contain the anxiety and focus on work. Things will happen in time. Here in the Premier League you need to be very quick mentally. Spaces are shorter and the game is much more tactical and tight. In England, I have acquired more tactical knowledge and improved the speed of my decision making,” said the midfielder.
