The United States national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann has been getting the best out of Eddie Johnson in recent months, and he has said that the player should continue the good work at club level as well.
Johnson has been one of the impressive players for the US national team in the last few months. He once again impressed Klinsmann at the Gold cup as well. In the 62 matches he has played for club and country in the last 18 months, Johnson has been able to score 27 goals and create six more.
This impressive record is likely to lead Johnson to be one of the first names on the team sheet for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil. Klinsmann has said that he is very much impressed by the work Johnson has done with the national team, but he says that he needs to continue improving and that is possible by working with the club team Seattle Sounders. The US will be playing against Mexico and Costa Rica in the round of World Cup qualifying matches.
Klinsmann has stressed the importance of Johnson looking after himself and keeping himself in top shape.
Johnson has managed to score 22 goals in just 51 matches for Seattle Sounders.
“We got Eddie into this group and suddenly he’s right on focus and he’s ready to deliver to the group Not only scoring a goal, but to make those runs and hold the ball, to occupy the opponent’s defense and do a lot of work. He’s done a tremendous job. Become consistent, look after yourself, and look after your body. Just really focus and become that athlete that you can be. What we expect now is for him to go to Seattle and improve there too,” said the former Bayern Munich and Tottenham midfielder.
